MRSA
MRSA is an infection caused by a group of bacteria called Staphylococcus aureus. MRSA is a type of ‘strain’ of Staphylococcus aureus that does not respond (is resistant) to certain antibiotics including methicillin and the more common antibiotics such as oxacillin,penicillin, and amoxicillin. The letters MRSA stand for ‘methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus’.
MRSA causes conditions such as furunculosis, pyemia, osteomyelitis, suppuration of wounds, and food poisoning.
